How Amazon ElastiCache pricing works

Node-based clusters are billed per node-hour, at a rate set by the node type and the engine (Valkey, Redis OSS or Memcached). Every node counts: a primary with two replicas is three nodes. Valkey nodes are priced below the same node running Redis OSS, so the engine filter changes the numbers. Reserved nodes for one or three years lower the rate. ElastiCache Serverless is billed differently, on the data stored (GB-hours) and the requests processed (ECPUs), and is not part of this table. Backup storage and data transfer are billed separately.

A worked example. cache.m6g.large costs $0.1770 an hour on-demand (Redis) in EU (Frankfurt), which is about $129.21 a month for one node running all 730 hours. A one-year reservation with no upfront payment brings that to $0.1210 an hour, 32% less. Every other type, engine and purchase option for EU (Frankfurt) is in the table above.

ElastiCache pricing: common questions

How much does cache.m6g.large cost in EU (Frankfurt)?

$0.1770 an hour on-demand (Redis) in EU (Frankfurt), which is about $129.21 a month for one node running all 730 hours. A one-year reservation with no upfront payment brings that to $0.1210 an hour, 32% less.

How many nodes do I pay for in an ElastiCache cluster?

All of them. Each primary and each replica is billed at the node-hour rate, so a cluster with 3 shards and 1 replica per shard is 6 nodes. Multiply the price in the table by the node count.

Is Valkey cheaper than Redis OSS on ElastiCache?

Yes. AWS prices Valkey node-hours below Redis OSS on the same node type, and Valkey is API-compatible with Redis OSS 7.2, so switching engine is the cheapest saving available on an existing cluster. Select each engine in the table to see both rates.
