How Amazon Redshift pricing works

A provisioned cluster is billed per node-hour, at a rate set by the node type, for as long as the cluster runs; a paused cluster stops the node charge. With RA3 nodes compute and storage are separate, so the data is billed as managed storage per GB-month on top of the nodes. Reserved nodes for one or three years lower the node rate. Redshift Serverless is billed differently, per RPU-hour of capacity used while queries run, and is not part of this table. Redshift Spectrum queries over S3 are billed per terabyte scanned, and backup storage beyond the free allowance per GB-month.

A worked example. ra3.xlplus costs $1.3200 an hour on-demand in Middle East (Bahrain), which is about $963.60 a month for one node running all 730 hours. A one-year reservation with no upfront payment brings that to $0.9300 an hour, 30% less. Every other type, engine and purchase option for Middle East (Bahrain) is in the table above.

Redshift pricing: common questions

How much does ra3.xlplus cost in Middle East (Bahrain)?

$1.3200 an hour on-demand in Middle East (Bahrain), which is about $963.60 a month for one node running all 730 hours. A one-year reservation with no upfront payment brings that to $0.9300 an hour, 30% less.

Is Redshift Serverless cheaper than a provisioned cluster?

It depends on how many hours a day queries run. Serverless bills capacity (RPUs) by the second only while a workload is running, so a warehouse queried a few hours a day costs less there. A cluster that is busy most of the day is cheaper provisioned, and cheaper still on reserved nodes.

What is not included in the Redshift node price?

Managed storage for RA3 nodes (per GB-month), Redshift Spectrum scans (per TB), concurrency scaling beyond the free daily credits, snapshots beyond the free allowance and data transfer.
